Zion Lutheran to host Community Goodwill Thanksgiving dinner

The economy reportedly is improving, at least on the national level. At the local level, however, many in our community may be watching and wondering- watching as the holiday season approaches, and wondering how they will afford the holiday “extras” that many of us take for granted, like Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.

It is with these folks in mind that Zion Lutheran Church in Moberly will once again host the Community Goodwill Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25.

“Last year, between the dining room and home deliveries, we served about 800 meals,” said Amy Doepke, a Zion member and coordinator of the event. “We’re planning and preparing to serve at least as many meals this year. We’ve always been blessed with outstanding support from the community. As in years past, we”re now asking for help-volunteers and contributions, so that we can serve everyone who needs a mean on Thanksgiving Day.”

A traditional menu with turkey and all the trimmings will be served in Zion’s Fellowship hall on Thanksgiving Day from 11 am until 2 pm. For those unable to travel to the meal site, home-delivered meals will be available by reservation. Zion Lutheran Church is located on Route M (Urbandale), just south of Moberly High School.

Financial contributions are needed to purchase turkeys and other groceries. Also needed are pies and volunteers to work in the dining hall and deliver meals to the homebound.

To volunteer, make a contribution, contribute pies or reserve a meal for home delivery, please contact: Zion Lutheran Church, 263-3256, ext 10; Pastor Ken Schurb, 269-9400; Amy Doepke, mommaamy@sbcglobal.net; Lana Schurb, lanagobux@mywdo.com.
