It began with a parade downtown, a proclamation and some fun activities for children of all ages.

Week of the Young Child was officially designated through a proclamation presented by Mayor Don Burton. the time is set aside to raise awareness for the need of providing high quality learning opportunities for children in their earliest years.

Julie Douglas of the Missouri Humanities Council located in St. Louis, presented Mayor Burton with a plaque signifying the Read First grant. Only 10 communities are eligible to receive this award and this was the second year for Moberly to get the honor.

A bounce house and mini train rides were available for the children following the presentation. Representatives from Scholastic came with 400 children’s books to give away.
