Westran loses final game in final seconds
Kris Childs - March 10, 2010By Kris Childs
The Westran Hornets faced off against the Fayette Falcons last Thursday night at MACC in the semifinals of class 2 district 13 play. The two teams faced each other earlier in the year twice, both won by Fayette with the last one needing overtime to decide the winner.
Westran got off to a rocky start and got into foul trouble early, starters Bryce Enyard, Tyler Hunt, and Tycie Linneman all had collected at least two fouls in the first and as a result coach Floyd of Westran was forced to sit his starters more than usual in the first half to avoid further foul trouble. The Hornets trailed 13-12 after one and 28-22 at the break.
The Hornets battled through the third and shrunk the lead to 4 going into the final quarter trailing 39-35. In the fourth Westran did everything they could to battle back and at one point only trailed 44-42 but time wasn’t on their side in this one as they simply ran out of clock and was forced to intentionally foul in an effort to keep their season alive. Fayette sealed their victory with 0:20 seconds left when off an inbound pass Enyard fouled out sending Fayette to the line once again putting the game out of reach for the Hornets. Fayette won by a final of 54-48.
Leading Scorers for Westran were Bryce Enyard with 16 points, Tyler Hunt with 12 points and 12 boards, and Tyler Aulber and Tycie Linneman both had 8 points.
After the game Westran Coach Floyd commented on the disappointing loss, “I thought the tempo of the game was exactly where we needed it to be, close. They weren’t racing up and down the court, they weren’t scoring a lot in transition, down six at half…. We had saved legs, saved kids from getting into deeper foul trouble, we had our full arsenal ready to go [in the fourth], … just didn’t fall for us.”
Westran finished the regular season with a record of 14-13.
For the 09-10 season Bryce Enyard finished with a total of 477 points which was good for an average of 18.3 points a game and also shot 51.1 percentage from the floor. Tyler Aulber was second with 336 points and 12.9 points per game average. Tyler Hunt scored 202 points on the season averaging 7.8 a game and collected 235 rebounds for an average of 9 boards per game. Tycie Linneman totaled 178 points and Drake Buffington finished with 159.
