Westran Lady Hornets win Class 1 Conference title

If you were to ask anyone who has followed the Westran Hornet Softball team this fall they would most likely tell you right off the bat that the Lady Hornets have made immense improvements from the first practice this year. Coming off their victory in Slater last week the Lady Hornets clinched the Lewis & Clark Conference Championship which is an impressive feat for the young team being freshman laden. Capturing a conference championship with mostly freshman on the team is a sign of even better things to come in the near future for the young Hornet team.

Westran won its championship in dominating style with their 15-3 win over Slater. Cassidy Edwards pitched a gem throwing a complete game striking out 8 batters and giving up 3 unearned runs and didn’t allow a walk. Offensively for Westran Bobbi Nejedly went 3-4 with a double and 4 runs scored. Sadie Wilhite was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Bry Cerveny was 3-3 with a triple 3 runs scored and 4 RBI’s, Kelsey Link was 4-5 with a triple and 4 RBI’s and Cassandra Brown went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

Westran Head Coach Mark Harvey commented, “This was a great win for our program. To win a conference championship was one of our goals at the beginning of the season. We have talked all season about progressing and continuing to get better. I think this is a good thing that helps the kids recognize that all of the hard work is paying off. We hit the ball pretty well tonight. Several people contributed. Cassidy pitched another good game. She really looked like a pitcher that was in control. Kelsey Link and Bry Cerveny had big days at the plate for us and that is what you look for out of the 3 and 4 spots in the lineup.”
