Westran extends record to 11-3
Kris Childs - May 6, 2010Entering into Monday’s game versus Fayette the Westran Hornets were on a two game skid and were looking to put their game back on the right track. After losing to Salisbury in the Lewis and Clark tournament in 8 innings 3-2 the Hornets dropped their next game against Sturgeon 11-4.
With a weekend of rest the Hornets sent their ace Tyler Hunt to the mound to get the team back on the right track. Westran shelled out 14 runs Monday on 13 hits and committed no errors while holding Fayette to just three hits and didn’t allow a run.
Tyler Hunt threw 6 shutout innings, gave up 2 hits, struck out 15 and walked 4 batters. Trent Land pitched a scoreless seventh inning allowing 1 hit and struck out 2 with 1 walk.
Westran was up against Logan Ball whose previous game for Fayette shutout Salisbury’s lineup and only allowed 3 hits. The Hornets had a bit more success Monday with seven batters collecting at least one hit. Tyler Hunt was 3-5 with a home run a 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored, Matt George was a perfect 3-3 with two doubles and 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored and Drake Buffington was 2-3 with two doubles 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Reggie Nute, Tyler Aulber, Tycie Linneman and Matt Werdehausen also collected a hit.
Westran Coach Lance Massey said after the game how important it was to get the win Monday and was pleased with how well his team did at the plate. Coach said they hit the ball hard and were doing a better job at being selective in the strike zone.
Westran is now 11-3 and will next play Atlanta at home on Thursday night at 5 pm.
