Westran boys, girls lose to Sturgeon
Kris Childs - February 11, 2010The Westran Lady Hornets played a varsity game against the Sturgeon Bulldogs Saturday, February 6, at MACC’s Activity Center.
The Lady Hornets managed to keep the game close in the first quarter only trailing by six. In the second quarter Sturgeon widened the gap scoring 23 points. In the second half the Lady Hornets were outscored again and trailed 53-22 after three quarters in what would end up a 63-24 victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
For Sturgeon, Krissy Arends led all scorers with 19 points while Kacie Holtkamp chipped in 14. For Westran Sam Gwinner and Sadie Wilhite both ended the game with 7 points.
After the game Westran Coach Gary Dresback gave his breakdown of the game saying “We were able to keep the score close in the first quarter by hitting our shots, but our struggle all season has been not getting enough shots on the floor because we turn the ball over too much.”
In the second game the Westran varsity boys took on Sturgeon’s varsity team.
Sturgeon started strong opening the game with a 10-0 run and lead at the half 27-20. With less than two minutes remaining in the fourth, Westran was able to pull to within one but eventually lost 54-46 to Sturgeon’s number two ranked team.
For Westran Bryce Enyard dumped in 20 points and Tyler Aulber hit 5 three-pointers.
