Spartans mark up win against Versailles
Kris Childs - September 17, 2010The Moberly Spartan football team bounced back in big way, dominating in all phases of the game versus the Versailles Tigers after a losing 26-14 the week prior to Chamois.
The Spartan defense shut down the Tiger offense only allowing 6 points while forcing 5 turnovers led by Davis Keleher who had a 27 yard interception return for a touchdown and a fumble recovery as well as fumble recoveries by Shaq Golden, Jamie Eravi and Chase Robert. The Spartan defense controlled the line of scrimmage with 8 tackles for a loss led by Anthony and Josh Cedillo who had a combined 14 tackles.
The Spartan offense took advantage of good field position all night and scored 5 offensive touchdowns headlined by quarterback Ben Stoecklein who was 10-19 with 100 yards passing and 2 touchdowns and 1 rushing TD along with rushing touchdowns by Trevon Logan and Josh Cedillo.
After four quarters of the Spartans imposing sheer will against the Tigers, inclement weather in the area caused the game to come to an end with three minutes to go. After a coaches conference, both sides agreed on a Versailles forfeit rather than returning the following day to finish an otherwise completed game.
Next week Moberly will try to improve on their 2-1 record against the Macon Tigers. Coach Jason Ambroson made a point to say that in order for his team to have success this season they need to have games like this and work as a team.
