Last Friday night the boys in Moberly were, in the eyes of many, looking at a make or break night. When the battle was over the Spartans would come out with a victory that may have just shifted the momentum for the rest of the season.
With a commanding 32-7 halftime most of the team headed into the locker room, but the homecoming king and queen still to be crowned and a number of players would remain for the ceremony as nominees. Shaquille Golden, a member of the varsity football squad, would accept his crown as king and senior Addie Davis was named this years queen.
When the smoke cleared it would be a 26-7 victory over conference rival Fulton Hornets as Moberly would see the end zone seven different times. Quarterback Ben Stoecklien had a big night throwing for 184-yards completing 16 of 19 passes. Chris Ewens caught 11 balls for 131-yards, rushed for another 22-yards, and tacked on a pair of scores. Running Back Trevon Logan ran 14 times for 98-yards and he too would have two touchdowns.
The trio were not the only the stars of the offence. Four more Spartans would run the ball and six more would combine for 101-yards on 9 receptions. As a whole the team had a total of 444 all purpose yards, 232 of those passing and 212 on the ground.
On the defensive side of the ball Christian McCluskey and Anthony Cedillo would have 12 and 10 tackles respectively to lead the Spartan D. Another 14 defenders would combine for 38 tackles. Cedillo would add an interception return for 26-yards as would Chase Roberts for 5-yards.
Moberly now holds onto a 3-2 record. This Friday they face their North Central Missouri Conference rivals from Marshall. The Owls come in with an opposite record of 2-3. The Spartans will be looking to jump to 4-2 and keep the winning momentum alive
