Moberly hosts weekend football jamboree
Submitted - September 17, 2010Schools from as far away as South Callaway came to Moberly to take part in the football jamboree Saturday. About 10 youth teams with boys and girls playing together suited up to play. A football jamboree allows coaches to see a player’s strengths and weaknesses at certain positions and also allows the players to learn fundamentals along with how to work together.
The Westran Hornets and Moberly Spartans took part in the jamboree and overall did very well. The Hornet games were interesting to watch due to their equally matched opponents. The first two games defensively were not as good as everyone wished, but offensively the Hornets seemed to know exactly what they were doing. During the third game, the Hornets pulled it all together. Defensively, Westran turned into an almost impenetrable wall, allowing only a small amount of yards to be gained by the opposing offense. Offensively, the Hornets kept on running and passing the ball like they had been doing it for a long time.
The Moberly Spartans played up to their title, Spartans. When these young players grow up and play in high school, everyone should watch out. As a team, they worked together like they were just one big football entity, and were able to run the ball very well and fluently. Defensively, there was no mercy to the Spartan opponents, and the hometown team gave out every ounce of energy they had
