Lady Spartans take conference championship

The Moberly Lady Spartans are North Central Missouri Conference champions for the third consecutive year after winning in dramatic fashion against conference rival Mexico Monday evening.  This is Moberly’s fourth conference championship in five years.

Moberly and Mexico were all knotted up at one goal a piece after regulation had ended and took double overtime to decide a winner. The winning goal came from Tierney Seifert on a free kick after teammate Lindsey Boyer was fouled. Tierney was the only Lady Spartan to score a goal in the matchup.

Moberly who is now 17-2 and sixth ranked in the state will play their first game as the 2010 NCMC Champions Thursday night against Fulton and will be the team’s senior recognition night.

The Lady Spartans hosted a match with Boonville last Thursday and took that victory for their 16th of the year by final of 4-2. Kelly Ross tied a school record in the game scoring all four goals for Moberly. Kelly’s first goal was assisted by Sydney Armstrong, the next two were assisted by Moberly career assist record holder Shaylyn Cooksey and the fourth came with the help of Riley Burke.
