Lady Spartans drop final game in overtime

By Kris Childs

Moberly’s Lady Spartans season came to an end last Wednesday night losing to St. Dominic in the first round of state sectionals. Moberly made the trip to Jefferson City with hopes of keeping their season alive but were unable to edge their opponent in the match up.

Moberly trailed St. Dominic in the first quarter 14-11 but took the lead in the second and went into halftime ahead 27-22. The Lady Spartans held a three-point lead after three quarters at 34-31. After a strong fourth quarter by St. Dominic, the Lady Crusaders managed to even the score 44-44 and send the game into overtime.

In OT the Spartans couldn’t keep up the pace and fell short to St. Dominic by a final of 51-47.

Leading scorers for Moberly were Tierney Seifert with 18, Liticia Allen and Akielie Rucker with 9, and Shelby Southerland had 8 points.

Moberly ends the season with an overall record of 23-4, and an unbeaten district record of twelve wins and no losses which was the first time in 23 years that the Lady Spartans had ended a season unbeaten in their district.

Congratulations to Coach Douglas and her team for all they accomplished this season.
