Moberly competed in their second golf match of the year Monday afternoon at Timber Lake Golf Course in Moberly.
Moberly as a team played well but not quite good enough to take first in the match. Moberly was edged by defending North Central Missouri Conference champions Boonville by four strokes. Boonville shot a 158 overall (+18), Moberly shot a 162 overall (+22), and South Shelby shot an overall 196 (+56).
Individual scores for Moberly were: Mark Loeber 37, Dustin Backe 40, Jared Martin 41, Lincoln Schopp 44 and Eric Campbell 46.
Moberly also took second in the JV matchup Monday with an overall score of 206. Boonville placed first with an overall 203 and South Shelby placed third with an overall 225.
Moberly’s JV scores were: Britton Ellison 49, Cliff Brockmeier 47, Dusty Brockmeier 53, Nick Barnett 57, Joel Tayon 55, Nick Burge 61.
“We knew coming into this match that it would be a good measuring stick to see where we are,” said Moberly Golf Coach Hannam. “Obviously we now know that we’ve still got to get better to compete with the best teams in the NCMC. Boonville is the defending NCMC champion that returns three state qualifiers from a year ago. We knew that we would have to play our best to beat them. Unfortunately we weren’t able to do that tonight.
“I personally take losing very hard, as do our kids, but to play poorly and still be within four shots of them tells us that we can compete, but we do have to continue improving. After playing a couple of matches in the home comfort of Timber Lake, Monday we’ll go on the road and found how our work translates on another golf course against Fulton. I know we’re looking forward to it.”
