U.S. Olympians start strong

In the opening week of the 2010 Winter Olympics team USA has started out strong. Through Tuesday’s games, the United States has racked up eight total medals, second only to Germany’s ten, according to nbcolympics.com.
On the men’s side, the United States have taken six medals so far. In the men’s short track 1500 meter event J.R. Celski took home the bronze metal and Apolo Ohono placed second in the event taking silver. With Anton’s silver medal performance, that gives him six total medals for his Olympic career. Apolp won gold, silver, and bronze in 2006, and gold and bronze in 2002. Apolo can pass Bonnie Blair for most decorated Winter Olympian with one more medal at the Vancouver games.
Bode Miller won bronze in alpine skiing, men’s downhill event. While Bryone Wilson also took bronze in freestyle skiing, mens moguls event. Johnny Spillane won silver in nordic combined, individual mornal hill event, and Seth Wescott won gold in men’s snowboarding, men’s snowboard event.
The two remaining medals belong to Shannon Bahrke and Hannah Kearney. Shannon took bronze in freestyle skiing, women’s moguls and Hannah took the gold in the same event.
