Disc golfers take part in Moberly leg of Bluebird Tournament

The Mid-Missouri Disc Golf Tour has been underway since August and is approaching the final stages of completion. The tour consists of 5 individual Mid-Missouri cities hosting a singles disc golf tournament with up to 8 divisions. The Amateurs and Pros play 2 rounds at each location and the Novice play one round. Four stages of the tour have already been completed in the cities of Columbia, Jefferson City, Fulton and Moberly with one final stage remaining to be played in Mexico this coming Saturday, October 2 before the Championship round which will be held in Marshall on October 30. Champions will be named for each of the 8 divisions including: Open (Pro); Advanced Masters (40+); Advanced Amateur; Intermediate Men; Novice Men; Women’s Pro; Intermediate Women; Novice Women. Each player receives 2 points for participating in the event, points for where they place, and 2 points for each person they beat or tie in each event.

Over 50 players from all over the state turned out for the Moberly leg of the Bluebird tournament last Saturday.  The course, which is coming up on its first anniversary of existence, proved to be a challenge to some with holes that dog-legged through the woods south and west of the Lodge. Weather was very good. Tees are still sometimes a problem but the placement of concrete tees is planned for the near future.

While the participants at all levels of last week’s tournament were predominantly men, the sport is beginning to appeal to more women with a few taking part in the Bluebird.

The 18-hole disc course located behind the Lodge in Rothwell Park is open to everyone who is interested and there is no charge to play. The course is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information go to moberlymo.org or to the website of the local disc golf group magiccityflyers.net
