Sheriff’s Report

Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols reports the following incidents, reports, investigations and arrests.

A deputy assisted an investigator with the Division of Family Services with a child abuse hotline that alleged sexual abuse at a residence in rural Moberly. Interviews were conducted. At the conclusion of the investigation, no evidence was found to substantiate the claim.

A deputy received information concerning a wanted person who was at a business in rural Moberly. The deputy responded and observed the individual in the business. The individual attempted to flee, however the deputy immediately took him into custody. While patting the subject down, the deputy located a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia on the subject.
The individual was taken into custody and transported to the Randolph County Jail.
A deputy was dispatched to a residence in Higbee in reference to a report of animal neglect. The deputy contacted the owner of the animal and advised of the received complaint. The deputy observed that the animal had adequate food water and shelter. No further action taken.
A deputy was dispatched to a residence in Higbee in reference to a report of animal neglect. The deputy contacted that owner of the animal. The deputy checked the animal and noted that the animal appeared to be out of water. The owner of the animal directed the deputy to a bucket that was filled with water for the animal. The deputy additionally noted that the animal appeared to be healthy and had adequate shelter. No further action taken.

Deputies responded to a residence in Huntsville in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival contact was made with a male and female subject. It was learned that the two had become involved in a verbal argument. One party decided to leave the residence until the situation calmed down.

A deputy was advised of a runaway juvenile from a residence in rural Moberly. The deputy located the juvenile and transported them to Moberly Police Department to meet with the deputy juvenile officer and the juvenile’s parent. A copy of the report has been forwarded to Randolph
County Juvenile Office for review and action.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence in Clark in reference to a report of suspicious activity. The complainant reported that when she pulled into her driveway, she observed a white male subject wearing a black tee shirt and white cap, crouched down next to a building near her residence. The complainant drove around the block and called authorities. The deputy patrolled the area without locating anyone matching the description given.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence in rural Clark in reference to a report of an individual who was attempting to harm themselves. After interviewing the subject, the deputy applied for and received an order for 96 hour detention, evaluation and treatment. The individual was later transported to Missouri Psychiatric Center in Columbia without incident.

A deputy was dispatched to a location on County Road 2245 in reference to a loud party. The deputy patrolled the area without locating a party or loud music. No further action taken.

A deputy was dispatched to Boone Health Clinic in Moberly in reference to a dog bite. The victim reported that was at a residence on County Road 1830 to service an appliance when the homeowner’s dog bit him on the leg. A copy of the report has been forwarded to the Randolph County Health Department.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence on County Road 2250 in reference to a report of property damage. The complainant reported that someone damaged his 2000 Lincoln Town Car by kicking dents into the vehicle and scratching vulgar words into the paint. The deputy photographed and fingerprinted the vehicle. The investigation continues.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence on County Road 2265 in reference to a report of a theft. The complainant reported that during the evening or late night ours, someone stole a 5 foot Hedge log with the complainant’s name carved into it. The investigation continues.

A deputy was dispatched to a location on County Road 2275 in reference to a fight in progress. Upon arrival the deputy met with an adult male who advised that he was in the area to pick up his juvenile son and the son attacked him. The juvenile was transported to the Moberly Police

Department and turned over to Juvenile Authorities.

A Cairo resident was served an order for 96 hour detention, evaluation and treatment. The individual was transported to Missouri Psychiatric Center in Columbia without incident.

A deputy was dispatched to a location on County Road 1220 in reference to a report of a suspicious vehicle. The complainant reported that an un-described vehicle was traveling up and down the road very slowly. The deputy patrolled the entire length of County Road 1220 and did not observe any vehicles. No further action taken.

Samantha P. Cheney was served a Randolph County warrant on a class C felony charge of burglary 2nd degree. Cheney posted the required bond and was released.

Jeremy William Tompson was served a Randolph County warrant for a probation
violation on a class B felony charge of distribution/delivery/manufacture/produce or attempt to or possess with intent to distribute/deliver/ manufacture/produce a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor charge of resisting/interfering with arrest, detention or stop, an unclassified misdemeanor charge of failed to display plates on a motor vehicle/trailer and an unclassified misdemeanor charge of displayed/possessed motor vehicle/trailer plates of another person. Tompson
remains in the Randolph County Jail in lieu of the required bond.

Daniel L. Ashworth was served a Randolph County warrant for failure to appear on a class A misdemeanor charge of operated a vehicle on the highway without a valid license – 1st or 2nd offense, a class C misdemeanor charge of failed to signal/gave improper signal when stopping/turning left or right and an infraction charge of driver/front seat passenger 16 year old or over failed to wear a properly adjusted/fastened safety belt. Ashworth remains incarcerated.

Sean James Branch was served a Randolph County warrant for failure to appear on a class A misdemeanor charge of domestic assault – 3rd degree – 1st or 2nd offense. Branch posted the required bond and was released.

Misty J. Pratt was served a Randolph County warrant for failure to appear on an infraction charge of driver/front seat passenger 16 year old or over failed to wear properly adjusted/fastened safety belt. Pratt posted the required bond and was released.

Julianne Alexis Johnson was served a Randolph County warrant for failure to appear on an infraction charge of driver/front seat passenger 16 year old or over failed to wear properly adjusted/fastened safety belt. Johnson posted the required bond and was released.

Kenton R. Lewis was served a Randolph County warrant on a class C felony charge of burglary 2nd degree. Lewis was released on his own recognizance by the court.

Alycia M. Kendrick was served a Randolph County warrant for a probation violation on a class C felony charge of possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of Marijuana. Kendrick posted the required bond and released.

Zanna J. Johnson was served a Randolph County warrant for a probation violation on a class C felony charge of possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of Marijuana. Johnson posted the required bond and released.

Charles Zachariah Bittner was served a Randolph County warrant on a felony class charge of fugitive from out of state. Bittner remains incarcerated awaiting extradition.

Russell E. Burton was served a Randolph County warrant for failure to appear on a class A misdemeanor charge of operated a motor vehicle on highway wile drivers license/privilege revoked. Burton posted the required bond and was released.
