Firefighters deem Fisk fire accidental
Janet Morales - May 28, 2010Everyone cleared an apartment safely and a dog was saved by firefighters following a kitchen fire on Fisk Avenue Friday afternoon.
According to a report from the Moberly Fire Department, a fire was located in the downstairs of a four-apartment complex at 511 Fisk in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly extinguished and salvage and overhaul was completed. While the residents had left the building safely, a dog was reported to be inside. The dog was found and carried from the structure.
The fire was found to be unintentional. The report said the resident had placed a plastic trash can on a cook stove to keep the dog out of it thinking the power was off. When power was restored, the trash can ignited.
The other apartments sustained minor smoke which was removed by firefighters.
Losses were estimated at $15,000 for the property and $10,000 for contents.
