Voters approve ballot issues

Randolph County voted on three amendments three propositions and Huntsville voters addressed a bond issue Tuesday. All statewide issues passed.

Proposition O asked Randolph County voters to allow a tax of 15 cents per each one hundred dollars assessed valuation to help the sheltered workshop and other related services for developmentally disabled and handicapped persons. In an era of no new taxes, the county narrowly approved this by a vote of 3,945 – 3,658.

Huntsville residents approved a bond issue that will help update the sewer system in town. This was a necessary step for the town as DNR had found the current system inadequate and potentially dangerous to the health of residents.

Amendment 1 asked about making the assessor’s office an elected office in all counties.

Amendment 2 asked voters to allow former prisoners of war to have their property taxes exempted.

Amendment 3 asked to prevent new taxes on real estate.

Proposition A repeals the earnings tax in the St. Louis and Kansas city area and allows the voters in those areas to approve continuation of the earnings tax.

Proposition B regulates dog breeding. Over 73 percent of Randolph Countians said no to this issue but it passed statewide.
