Veterans to be honored on Memorial Day
Janet Morales - May 28, 2010The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville will hold a Memorial Day Service at 9 a.m., May 31.
Masters of Ceremonies will be the new Veterans Cemetery Director Larry Carmer and Ft. Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery Leah Piland. Boy Scout Troop 98 of Cairo will post the colors of the flag. Larry Page, Northern Missouri Patriot Guard Chaplain will speak and Carmer and Piland will read the names of those interred from June 2009-present. The ceremony will close with the releasing of butterflies by Carolee Hazlet and a solo, God Bless America, sung by Wanda Burnett.

VFW
The American Legion will host a Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. at the Moberly VFW Post 2654 on South Morley. Military and veteran organizations will be recognized and Art Latson will serve as the featured speaker. Light refreshments will be served after the service.
Cemetery flags
Approximately 150 flags are flying in Oakland Cemetery to honor veterans. Volunteers have covered Memorial Park Cemetery placing over 300 flags on the graves of veterans.
