Trustee’s and friends celebrate 25th year of Toy Run
Janet Morales - November 5, 2010Approximately 400 bikers took part in the 25th annual Trustee’s Toy Run held Sunday.
Breakfast was offered at Glad Tidings Assembly of God. Trustee’s Cycle was the starting point for the motorcycle run with 1 new toy and 1 non-perishable food item the cost of admission. The items help children and families in the Moberly area.
Santa led the way on this year’s “parade” of motorcycles. Gary “Mikie” Smith, of Huntsville, has served in this capacity since the first run in 1985.
“I get a dandy kick out of it,” said Smith. “We have a lot of fun and help a whole lot of kids. It’s a great charitable cause. There will be an unimaginable pile of toys inside and we have a really good time doing it.”
Riders came from all over Missouri to take part in the ride. Anthony Lowhorn didn’t have far to ride from his home in Centralia but it was an important trek for him.
“I remember standing in line with my mother at the Salvation Army,” said Lowhorn. It’s my chance to give back. It’s all about the giving.”
There were many more bikers this year than anticipated. The 388 who signed up were joined by latecomers who came along for the fun. Pam Trustee reached to the bottom of her big pot of chili but there was plenty for everyone.
“There is always enough,” said Pam. “I think it has something to do with the Lord.”
