Sparks gets much-needed facelift

Sparks Avenue as we once knew it is no more. MoDOT and the City of Moberly are working together to improve Highway 24 and the project includes straightening the portion of Sparks where it meets the highway. The previous position of the road has long been considered a safety issue.

Tom Sanders, director of community development and public works, said ditches would be cut and will run down Sparks then down to Buchanan. Depending on the weather, the road closure should last about two weeks.

“The contractor will finish grade work, apply base rock and a couple of lifts of asphalt,” said Sanders. “There will be a brief additional closure in the future towards the end of the project for the surface course of asphalt.”
