Rush receives top scholarships at MATC Awards Ceremony

Moberly Area Technical Center held its annual awards ceremony May 6 with a number of awards from each division being presented.

Several scholarships were given out on behalf of businesses and families in the area. Justine Rush, a senior at Moberly Senior High School, received the two top scholarships: The Orscheln Industries Scholarship for “The 2009 Outstanding Technical Student” and Cardinal Health “Award of Excellence” Scholarship. Both scholarships are valued at $1,000 with the Orscheln scholarship renewable for four years.

Justine, daughter of Glenn and Kristi Rush, plans to attend MACC then transfer to MU to major in occupational therapy. The second Award of Excellence Scholarship given by Cardinal Health was presented to Amy Hudson, a senior at MHS. Amy, the daughter of Brian and Sheila Hudson, plans to attend the University of Missouri to pursue a degree in marketing.

Haak Memorial Scholarship

Gayle Haak presented the Randy Scott Haak Memorial Scholarship. This award is given each year to two students who have excelled in their automotive technical program. Randy Haak spent over 25 years in the automotive field, at Orscheln then at Dura, before his death. The scholarships, in the amount of $500 were given to Lynn Hulett and Zak Gettman.

Lynn is a senior at Salisbury High School. He is the son of Dennis and Terry Hulett and plans to attend the auto colision repair program at Lincoln Tech Institute.

Zak, a senior at Harrisburg High School, has applied for admittance into BMW Service Technicial Education Program. He is the son of Scott and Cindi Gettman.

Cory Schofield Memorial Award

The Cory Schofield Memorial Award was presented to Cody Rowland in the amount of $500 memory of Cory Schofield. Cory was a student in the welding program at MATC for two years and was a graduate in 2004. The award was presented by Cory’s parents, Charles and Nancy Schofield.

Cody is a senior at Harrisburg and plans to attend MACC and major in agricultural. His parents are Mark and Brenda Rowland.

Orscheln Industries

The Orscheln Industries gave two $500 scholarships, renewable for four years, to Ethan Lee, Sturgeon, and Dakotah Eitel, Westran.

Ethan is the son of Steve and Nancy Lee. He plans to attend Linn State Technical college to obtrain a degree in precision machining.

Dakotah is the son of Don Eitel and Donna Bass. He plans to attend Lincoln Tech Institute.

Another Orscheln Industries $500 Scholarship, renewable for two years, was presented to Marcel McClain.

Marcel is a senior at MHS. He plans to major in computer science and business management at Northwest Missouri State University. He is the son of Enrico McClain and Carla Pulce.

Cardinal Health

Cardinal Health gave two $500 “Award Of Excellence” Scholarships go to Tyler patterson and Nichole Conger.

Tyler is a senior at Moberly High School and is enrolled in the Accounting and Business Technology programs. He is the son of Dan Patterson and Brandie Pruden. Tyler plans to attend Moberly Area Community College and then transfer to MU to earn a degree in Certified Financial Planning.

Nichole, a senior at Westran, is enrolled in the medical technology program. She plans to attend Columbia College and major in nursing. She is the daughter of Damon and Tonya Conger.

Jackie James Memorial Award

 

 

The Jackie James Memorial Award was established to honor Jackie James, who was a student at MATC in the Building Technology and Cooperative Career Education programs. This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a non-traditional program at MATC who is planning to attend any accredited post-

secondary institution in the state of Missouri.

This year’s recipient is Matt Kirkendoll, Higbee High School. Matt is a student in the medical technology program and plans to attend MACC. He is the son of Pete and Michelle Kirkendoll.

Welding Scholarship

David Bride, a member of MATC’s Welding Advisory Board committee, presented the Moberly Area Technical Center’s Welding Advisory Board Scholarship in the amount of $500 to Dustin James, Salisbury.

Dustin, the son of Shawn and Teresa Whobrey, plans to attend the Missouri Welding Institute in Nevada, MO.

Drafting Advisor’s Award

The Drafting Advisor’s Cash Award was created with money raised by the MATC Drafting Advisory Board to monetarily assist students who are pursuing a career in a drafting-related field. The criteria for the recipient was based upon:

A Completer with Distinction in the Design Drafting program

Maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout the Design Drafting program

Have at least a 90% attendance record for the entire two-year program

This year’s recipient of the Drafting Advisor’s Award, in the amount of $230 is Trent Snodgrass. Trent, a senior at MHS, is the son of Doug and Kathy Snodgrass. Trent will attend pre-engineering courses at MACC then transfer to MU to complete a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
