Moberly to celebrate Railroad Days
Janet Morales - June 10, 2010Children passing through downtown Moberly are getting excited as they see amusement rides being set up on Sturgeon Street. The fifth annual Railroad Days begins today with games and rides provided by Fun time Carnival.
The event runs through Saturday featuring a car show, stage entertainment, baby shows and the very popular Sycamore Queen contest.
The Railroad Follies, directed by Carolee Hazlet, is Thursday at the Municipal auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m., opening with the Todd Davison dance troupe giving attendees a preview of their musical “Oklahoma” that will open at the Maples Theatre in Macon later this month.
Hazlet said there will be 20 acts of music, song, dance and comedy that will make a fantastic program with most of the artists local people.
Pageants for children ages three years through fifth grade will be held Thursday, also. Registration will be held from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in front of the stage area. The pageant will start promptly at 6 p.m.
The Tiny Mr. and Miss will feature boys and girls 3 years old to not entering kindergarten. The Little Mr. and Miss will feature boys and girls kindergarten through second grade and Mr. and Miss Rail Road will be third grade through fifth grade children.
There is an entry fee for each pageant with casual dress encouraged. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded for all age groups. All children from all areas are welcome to enter.

The Rail Road Days Baby Show will be held on Saturday, June 12. The event is sponsored by the Higbee Community Betterment Association.
Registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in front of the stage area and the show will start promptly at 10 a.m. The age brackets have been extended to include babies 0 to 35 months.
