Main Street Moberly to Host 4th Annual Piccadilly Auction

Main Street Moberly will hold its fourth annual Piccadilly Auction Saturday, September 18 at the former Lynn’s Country Floral, 517-519 West Reed. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served while patrons view and bid on the many interesting silent auction items. A new feature this year will be the addition of artwork from locally-known artists. Some of the artists featured will be Amy Dawkins, Norman O’Halloran, Brian Helton, Ray Craighead, Mike Wolf, and students from Westran High School.

Another new feature will be Galleria Gift Bags. Selected items will have gift bags placed next to them. Drop your numbered ticket into the bag, if you would like to have a chance to win that item. Later in the evening, a ticket will be drawn from each bag and the person selected will go home with that item.

At 7:15 p.m. the Piccadilly will begin. Guests will move from the gallery into the auction area, where they will be seated. A Piccadilly is a wacky auction where you can buy a valuable item for as little as a dime. The auctioneer holds up the item and announces the sale price, which will range from twenty-five cents to one dollar. Anyone who is interested in paying that price puts their money into a basket and holds up a numbered paddle to indicate that they have placed that bid. After everyone who is interested raises their paddle, a number is drawn. If your number is drawn and your paddle is raised, you win the item.

During the Piccadilly portion of the evening, several lucky attendees will be chosen to play “Let’s Make a Deal”. If the person chosen can produce the item requested, they will win a prize. Three people will also be selected to participate in The Big Deal.

Many local retailers and individuals have donated merchandise and gift certificates for this event. Included in your admission ticket price will be a starter package of tokens to be used for bidding.

Stop by the Main Street Moberly office at 208 North Fourth or call 263-5251 for tickets. Main Street Moberly is an organization of business and property owners who choose to work together to keep the downtown a vital community center. Most businesses are locally owned and heavily depend on support of patrons of our area to keep their doors open. In return, they offer great values and great service as well as fun-filled community events such as Living Windows, Sidewalk Bazaar, and more.
