This year’s Relay for Life of Randolph County will be held the weekend of June 4-5. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, survivors will be greeted with friendship, refreshments and fun to celebrate the personal conquest of cancer. At approximately 6 p.m. cancer survivors are honored as they kick off the event and walk one lap around the track.
Shirts are available at Art’s Appliance on Highway 24 West. See Janie Riley Monday – Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
“We want to celebrate that you’re still with us,” said Janie Riley, a long-time Relay supporter. “The best thing for me is when they come into the store to pick up their shirts. I have met so many people and they have such unique stories and they are willing to share them.”
Extra shirts have been purchased so stop by Art’s for a shirt and fill out a form at that time if you haven’t already done so. She will be there until 5 p.m. the day of the Relay.
The Relay for Life is an annual event held in the fight against cancer. The Relay brings people of all walks of life together “for a common goal, a hope for one day of a cancer free world”.
Teams take turns – or relay – around the Moberly High School track for approximately 14 hours honoring those who have beaten cancer and remembering those who did not. Funds are raised for cancer research, prevention, education, advocacy and patient services.
