City of Moberly to Temporarily Change Disinfection

The City of Moberly will be temporarily changing the disinfectant used to treat the water in the distribution system. During the week of October 18, 2010, we will be switching our disinfectant to free chlorine. We will be switching back to using chloramines around the week of November 1, 2010.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources recommends that those systems using chloramines switch back to free chlorine once per year to eliminate nitrification within the distribution system. At the same time, we will be flushing out the water mains to help clean and provide better disinfection throughout the system. During this time, you may experience a taste and odor difference. During this period, the water will still be safe to drink. However, if you notice low or no water pressure or rusty water during the time we are flushing the mains, we are advising that you boil your water for 15 minutes before consumption.

Questions or concerns may be directed to the Water Office at 660-269-8705.
