Christmas
Janet Morales - December 8, 2010By Janet Morales
Warmer weather kicked off the Christmas season in Moberly last Thursday bringing crowds of people downtown to view the Living Windows, partake of the many foods and drinks being offered and to do a little shopping and a lot of socializing.
There was a lot of music in the shops, including the Moberly High School band that drew crowds into the Moberly Mirror. A few church groups portrayed the Nativity and smells of cookies, Lion kettle korn and hot chocolate filled the air.
A full page of color photos depicting the Living windows can be found on page 7.
Home Care of Mid-Missouri held its open house and 3th annual Tree of memories event. The tree outside the facility on Reed Street was lit and people hung ornaments in memory of loved ones. This is always a bittersweet event with families gathered together exchanging good stories but again experiencing that sense of loss.
The Girl Scouts were out in full force on Saturday, singing at the area nursing homes then gathering for fun at the James Youth Cabin in Rothwell Park. Temperatures were no longer warm for December but the biting air did not keep youngsters away from the Candy Cane Hunt put on by Parks and Recreation. See some of these photos on today’s page 8.
Of course the real start of the season is the Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce. Sylvia Ganaway served as Grand Marshal. Parade attendees were not only treated to a good show, but many of the younger set received candy, books and the Moose auxiliary even passed out stuffed animals. More parade photos can be found on page. 6.
With school plays, church programs, the laying of the Wreaths at the Veterans Cemetery, the Altrusa light display, and Santa to visit, you can count on much more in Randolph County to keep you in the holiday spirit. And you will find the Moberly Mirror there capturing it all in beautiful color for you.
