Submitted - December 8, 2010I want to thank the Westran Football team and the coaches for teaching me what the game REALLY means. I’ve never been a big football fan mostly because I never took the time to understand the game and to be honest I’ve always had my doubt about the need for high school sports, especially football. After this season of games, I can say that I am a proud fan of at least high school football and it’s all due to an amazing group of kids and some special coaches from Westran High School!
For those of you who don’t follow High School football the team made it all the way to St. Louis to play for the state championship trophy at the “Dome” . The boys played that day at the “Dome” and fought a good battle only to end with a heart crushing loss by only one point in overtime. I am sad that they do not have a trophy for all their hard work. But they have a bigger prize that will follow them the rest of their lives. These boys have learned RESPECT, LOYALTY, TRUST, PRIDE, DETERMINATION, WILLPOWER, HOPE, FAITH, SPIRIT, DIGNITY and HUMILITY. Things that so often these days aren’t as important as they should be. This is something no one can ever take away from them. Thanks again to the amazing coaches, kids and parents for teaching ME. See you all next season in the stands.
