Westran FBLA students qualify for state competition

Approximately 30 members of the Westran Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America attended district competition at the Holiday Inn Select on Friday, February 19. Adviser Carrie Hayward accompanied the members to the competition.

Students qualifying for state competition at the annual conference in Columbia in April are: Matthew Werdehausen 1st in Job Interview; Hilary Cerveny, Justin McAlpin, and Karissa Head 1st in Digital Video Production; Kaela Crews & Bryanna Cerveny 1st in Desktop Publishing; Karissa Head 1st in Database Applications.

Other students who placed in the top five are: Stephanie Berry 3rd in Business Communications; Nick Marshall 3rd in Computer Problem Solving; Lisa Oliver 2nd in E-Business; Tycie Linneman, Bradley Minor, and Tyler Aulbur 5th in Emerging Business Issues; Nick Marshall 4th in Introduction to Technology Concepts; Reggie Nute 2nd in Mr. FBLA; Tyler Hunt, Matthew George, & Drake Buffington 2nd in Business Presentation.

Missouri FBLA now has 15,340 student members. For the fourth consecutive year, Missouri has earned an award for being the second-largest state chapter in the nation. Georgia has the largest FBLA membership.

Missouri FBLA has grown to include 428 chapters in high schools across the state, approximately 23 of which were established or reactivated during the current school year.

Students who are the top qualifiers in written, interview, performance and skill events will compete at the FBLA State Leadership conference in Columbia, April 18-20.

Keynote speakers included professionals from State Farm regarding safe teen driving as well as a Career Fair involving over 20 local businesses and colleges.
