Ricketts Rocks

Liz Morales

Salisbury pianist Seth Ricketts jazzed out the MACC Auditorium February 12 as part of a concert series sponsored by MACC and the Moberly Ara Council on the Arts.

The night was filled with ragtime, blues and jazz, along with songs by Ray Charles and Billy Joel.

Ricketts has been playing piano since he can remember and has been drawn to the ragtime style for just as long.

Ricketts plays piano for a local church in Salisbury. He shared a medley of hymns for the approximately 150 audience members.

The harmonious evening ended with Ray Charles’ rendition of “God Bless America”, the song that made him famous.

When Ricketts stood to receive the crowd’s applause, the standing ovation left him no choice but to perform an encore, a ragtime tune called “Boogie Woogie Blues”.
