Piece Makers volunteer as ‘labor of love’
Submitted - August 20, 2010Many of you may have seen the beautiful quilts displayed and auctioned throughout our community. The Piece Makers are a group of women who enjoy quilting and they get together and make quilts for some of the most unlikely of places, they refer to it as a labor of love.
They recently made the quilt depicted in the picture above for VFW Post 2654 which represented all the branches of military services. The quilt will be displayed in the display window at the VFW during special patriotic holidays. This quilt has brought a wide range of emotions from all those veterans who served.
They have also made quilts for such places and people as, Orphans of Haiti, Back packs of love for foster kids throughout the United States, Lap robes for local nursing homes and quilts that were auctioned by Safe Passage.
The eight women who make up the group are from all different walks of life who share a common love of quilting. The group consists of volunteers: Debra Reynolds, Irene Monroe, Vydella Chapman, Ann Marie Goosey, Ester Kilgore, Carol Skinner, Betty Brooks, and Marcia Godwin.
This proves without a shadow of doubt that anybody can be a volunteer. The key is “get in where you fit in”
If you are a person who loves to quilt and have some free time and would like to volunteer or have material you would like to donate, please contact Vydella Chapman 660 – 537-9544.
