Nieves to be Lincoln Day keynote speaker

Representative Therese Sander, Senator Kurt Schaefer, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer and other Republicans will gather for the Lincoln Day Dinner celebration Friday, at Heartland Banquet Center in Moberly. The annual event is hosted by the Randolph County Republican Central Committee and it brings Randolph County Republicans together to meet Republican candidates seeking state and local offices in the 2010 election

“Celebrating our Constitution” is the theme of this year’s event. Representative Brian Nieves of Washington, Mo. will speak on “State Sovereignty and the Tenth Amendment”. Rep. Nieves is the sponsor of House Joint Resolution No.88, which will place an amendment to Article 1 of the Missouri Constitution on the November ballot for voters to decide. The amendment seeks to reinforce the sovereignty of the state of Missouri as the Federal government attempts to seize expanded powers not granted to it by the U. S. Constitution.

Rep. Nieves was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002 representing Franklin County. He is serving his seventh year as Majority Whip and has held the longest tenure of any current member of House Leadership. Rep. Nieves serves on the House Fiscal Oversight Review Committee and the General Laws and Immigration Reform Committee. Rep. Nieves states that “the Immigration Committee is the place in the House that represents ‘ground zero’ in the fight to preserve the sovereignty of our State and Nation.” A veteran, Rep. Nieves served 10 years in the U.S. Navy prior to serving in the Missouri Legislature. He and his wife Julie have 3 children.

Republican candidates seeking state and county offices will speak on current issues.

Doors open at Heartland Banquet Center, 2060 North Morley, Moberly, at 5:30 p.m. A social hour and silent auction will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dinner and the program will commence at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds go to fund Randolph County Republican Headquarters and other campaign efforts for the upcoming election.
