Moberly bands and St. Pius participate in district concert

Middle School band members at moberly high School and St. Pius X  Catholic School recently participated in the Northeast Missouri District Junior High Band.
In January they went to Macon where they auditioned for chairs and were assigned to one of two bands that perform. A total of 50 schools participated in the this year’s bands. Each band had approximately one hundred members.
The purpose of the honor band experience is to provide students the opportunity to interact with student musicians from other schools, prepare quality music, experience outstanding guest conductors, and perform a public concert.  Students also gained experiences in the audition process and rehearsing in sectional and full ensemble settings.
Four MMS members selected by Band Director Jordan Perry were Scott Mason on baritone, James Walker on French horn, Trae Riley on baritone saxophone and Andrew Duncan on clarinet.
St. Pius X students include: Abby Fawks, flute; Alaina Nichols, clarinet; Olivia Whitson, bass clarinet; Kylie Linneman, French horn; Zack Mattox, tuba-first chair; and Kaylee Vitt, percussion. Students selected as alternates, but not performing were: Callie Derboven, clarinet; Chase Freidel, tenor saxophone; Christian Elliott, trumpet; and Molly Burke, percussion.
Guest conductors for the bands were Mrs. Linda Huck, Band director at Farmington High school and Skip Vandelect, Director of Bands at Central Methodist University in Fayette. The public concert was held Saturday, February 19 in the Macon High School gym.
St. Pius X band students will travel to Fayette on March 4 to participate in the Central Methodist University Music Festival. The 7/8th Grade Band and a number of instrumental solo and ensemble events will  perform at the evaluative festival.
