Ministerial Alliance holds monthly meeting

The Randolph County Ministerial Alliance met at Coates Street Presbyterian Church. Attending were Vernon McGarvey, May Hall, Dorothy Smith, Wallis Landrum, Don Horne, Doug Coonce, Chester Heyer, Wes Peterson, Bob Shelby, and guest Catherine Turner.

The meeting opened with a welcome from RCMA President McGarvey. Wallis Landrum gave the devotional, from the book of Matthew 5:39-41. He spoke from the Sermon on the Mount concerning Retaliation – Resistance and Revenge.

Wallis shared with us the ideal behavior of teaching Christians how to treat those who do them wrong. Do not seek evil for evil, do not bear a grudge or resent those who have mistreated you. Do not seek revenge or look for a chance to retaliate. But forgive, go out of your way to help those who do evil against you. He explained to us turning the right cheek, it means that a person does not challenge, resent, retaliate, or enter a legal action against an attacker; but be prepared for another slap and bear it patiently. There is the knowledge that God will work all things out for good as the person goes about his life and service for God.

President McGarvey stated the minutes from last month’s meeting had been submitted to members by email. Copies were available if anyone had not received them. A motion was made to approve the minutes and the motion was seconded. The minutes were approved as submitted by affirmative vote of those present.

Treasurer May Hall submitted the current financial report. Benevolent Disbursements of $282.80 were shown. SPNF disbursements were $358.48. Ending balances were listed as:

Correctional Ministries Fund, $1,696.06, General Fund $668.21 and the Special Persons Needs Fund $127.67.

No Correctional Ministries report was made due to the absence of Jodie Jackson. Jodie’s absence was due to his wife having her second [surgical] procedure. Special prayers were lifted up in her name.

Catherine Turner/Community Emergency Response Team: Catherine asked if the Alliance would get churches involved in getting people from our congregation to get the CERT training, and through the training you can purchase your emergency gear. She suggested that we partner with the Red Cross agency to get people signed up for training. There were extra flyers and handouts left with the president.
