MACA presents a night of classical piano

Destiny Joiner, 15 of Moberly, sings an aria to start off the evening of classical piano by Jonathan Thornton who is accompanying her. The event was sponsored by the Moberly Area council on the Arts.
Jonathan Thornton performed a “night of classical piano” last Saturday as the second performance of the new season of the Moberly Area Council on the Arts.
Thornton played the piano solos Partita No. 4 in D major by J.S. Bach; Ravel’s “Une barque sur l’océan” from Miroirs; and Fantasie, Op. 17 by Robert Schumann.
Thornton is a 2004 graduate of Fayette High School. He has been playing the piano since the age of two and obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in performance at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. He is currently pursuing a master of Music degree in performance at Western Michigan University. Thornton was recently named a fellow of the 2010 Irving S. Gilmore International keyboard Festival.
Opening for Thornton was Destiny Joiner, 15 of Moberly, singing the aria “Amarilli mia Bella by Coccini. Destiny is a vocal music student of Mike Thornton.
The next performance sponsored by the Art Council and the Missouri Art Council is Babaloo Music and Fun, a program for children 7 p.m., Friday, October 22, at the MACC Auditorium. The Fort Leonard Wood 399th Army Band will provide the Veteran’s Tribute Concert at 7 p.m., Friday, November 5, at the Moberly Municipal Auditorium.
