Hawtorn CAR holds December meeting

Hawthorn Society Children of the American Revolution (CAR) met December 11 for its December meeting.

Chai latte Christmas tree favors were made to be presented to the Margaret Miller Chapter DAR. This is part of the CAR/DAR relations involvement. They packaged its donation for Safe Passage and got its contribution ready to be mailed to the Tamassee School also the Stamps for the Wounded.

It was a very cold snowy day. They went to the Jacksonville Veteran’s Cemetery for the Wreaths Across America ceremony. Following the ceremony the group went to the library to see the display they put together for its membership drive and the Christmas tree decorated with Christmas ornaments made from discarded puzzle pieces. This goes with its conservation project of recycling and also brings awareness to its state project Finding a cure for autism “Autism One Piece at a Time”.

The January meeting will be held in the home of the Dance family January 8.

Any child is eligible to join CAR if they are lineally descended from a Revolutionary patriot and between the ages of birth to 21. They age out at the age of 22. Help is available to check for a Revolutionary patriot to see if we can prove the line.

The group is saving boxtops for education, Pace lids, Campbell soup labels and used postage stamps. Also they save hotel/motel soaps, shampoos and conditioners.
