GS is for cookie – Girl Scout cookies

Girls Scouts, their troop leaders, families and friends were out in full force last Saturday conducting their annual cookie drive. Thin Mints and Caramel deLites (Samoas), aka Ashley Brocksmith and Paige McArtor respectively, waved cookie aficionados into the Randolph County Cookie Booth. According to Sherry Meyer, Troop 30259 leader, the girls sold 242 boxes of the 363 they had on hand Saturday.

“The girls in our county sold 792 cases of cookies, or 9,504 boxes, so far,” said Meyer. “We still have cookies at BLIMPIE Subs at the Moberly Travel Center on East Highway 24 or Moberly Electric Supply Company of West Highway 24. If we do not have what you are looking for or enough of what you are craving, please ask, we can get more!”

The Randolph County troops belong to the Girls Scouts of the Missouri Heartland Council. The motto of this year’s Girl Scout cookie drive is “Every cookie has a mission: To help girls do great things.”

Meyer said each troop decides what their “great things” will be.

“We use ours towards camp and of course patches,” said Meyer. “Others use theirs for things like trips. Troop 30412, led by Wendy White and Kim Penton, has been saving their money up and recently went on a trip to Chicago. Another, Troop 30744 led by Meagan Pemberton, spent a ‘Nite at the Museum’ in St. Louis, which was a Girl Scout Council sponsored event.”

Meyer said it is never too late to join a Girl Scout Troop. National dues are $12 and financial assistance is available for those in need. The annual camp will be held April 30-May 2 at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park.

“If you love to camp, join now!”
