Cairo graduates recognize each day is important
Liz Morales - May 28, 2010Northeast R-IV High School held its graduation ceremony on May 16, 2010. Twenty seniors walked across the stage to receive their hard-earned diplomas from the President of the Board of Education, Dale Samp.
The ceremony opened up with a prayer by seniors Alycia Crutchfield and Justin Roberts. Following the prayer a senior video was presented to introduce each graduate through their early years in life, school, and their senior year of high school.
The Class Flower of the Class of 2010 was an orange lily. Each graduate honored their parents and family members with an orange lily, which signifies wealth and pride. Immediately following the distribution of flowers was an ensemble performed by Daris King, Alycia Crutchfield, Allison Moret, Markie Stroppel, Crystal Schumman, Emma Moore, and Shelby Gittemeier. The septet sang “This Day” by Lowell Alexander, a song that shares a beautiful meaning of what each day holds for every one of us.
The Northeast R-IV High School’s salutatorian was Allison Moret. Moret gave a meaningful speech about her appreciation for her family and her teachers all through her thirteen years of education thus far. Moret went on to explain to her fellow class that ” So many opportunities lie ahead just waiting for us to grab them. Whether or not we go into college or straight into the work force, don’t let those opportunities pass you by!” It is very important for not just graduates, but everyone to remember this.
Daris King was the valedictorian for this class. She also presented a speech thanking her family and her teachers who helped her along her way to graduating at the top of her class.
“Whether you’re a student of a teacher, strive to be the best you can. Never settle for second best. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to be successful. Also, don’t’ forget to smell the roses and appreciate everything in life.”
Before the diplomas were presented to the seniors, Richard Morelock, Superintendent of Schools, announced that graduate Kristen Moore has decided to join the US Navy and starts boot camp this coming October. Also, Morelock announced the five seniors that maintained an A average throughout their four years of high school: Shelby Gittemeier, Daris King, Emma Moore, Allison Moret, and Crystal Schumann.
