Bohannon performs for Art Council season finale

The final program for the 2009./2010 season was held at MACC auditorium. Jim Bohannon, nationally know radio talk show host entertained an appreciative audience Friday evening. Mr. Bohannon, who was born in Lebanon, MO, related numerous stories, jokes, vignettes and bits of wisdom as part of his program.

Bohannon expressed his zeal for broadcasting as he explained why he went into radio. He related that “I was a real geek, no girls would even look at me..let alone talk to me. So I got a job at the local radio station in Lebanon, so I could get noticed by the girls in my high school. It didn’t really work, but I enjoyed being on the air and announcing local games – and so my career in broadcasting was launched”.

Bohannon moved to Springfield to go to college. He was an announcer/reporter at KICK radio.

He would eventually end up in Chicago working in the radio broadcast industry where he would meet Larry King. Bohannon related how, through a twist of fate, he would end up being a substitute on King’s program. The Jim Bohannon Show would later replace Larry King’s show on what is now known as Westwood One.

Mr. Bohannon’s political views, as he stated Friday night, are “militantly moderate”, with him leaning slightly conservative. He is a registered Democrat for the purposes of voting in primary elections. Bohannon occasionally serves as a booth announcer for CBS-TV’s Face the Nation. He also does voice announcements for satellite feeds of some of Westwood One programs such as the Dennis Miller Show.

Locally, Bohannon can be heard on America in the Morning and The Jim Bohannon Show on KWIX 1230 AM

This was the last scheduled event for the Moberly Area Council on the Arts current season. The upcoming schedule for the 2010/2011 season will be in the Mirror in the near future. Watch for announcements for season tickets and the new program schedule.
